I Hate Ronaldo

July 9, 2006 | In Sports

The Internet is no stranger to providing momentum behind (hate) campaigns. A point in case being numerous websites against the Manchester United/Portugal player Cristiano Ronaldo. It has escalated to the point of his Wikipedia entry for him has being locked for editing due to vandalism.

Cristiano Ronaldo

An email campaign started by England fans attempted to rob Ronaldo of the World Cup’s best young player award. He was leading the Fifa website vote by a huge margin but an email urging fans to vote for Ecuador’s Luis Valencia instead led to a turnaround in 24-hours (Germany striker Lukas Podolski actually won the Fifa young player of the World Cup award).

Here are probably the two main sites which are spearheading the attack:
I Hate Ronaldo - may have crumbled under the weight of Internet traffic - 400,000 hits in 3 days.
Hate Ronaldo - similar, with a dartboard Flash game

The infamous clip which started the ball rolling (sic):
